A New Era Of Luxury Travel

Two of the most recognisable names in exploration have teamed up to take luxury travel to a new level. G Adventures and National Geographic Expeditions announced the launch of a premium lifestyle travel collection, with departures beginning in January 2027.

Unlike traditional package tours, these itineraries promise curated experiences with exclusive behind-the-scenes access to world-class museums, UNESCO sites, and dining venues that most travellers can only dream of.

Where The Journeys Will Go

The destinations on offer span six continents, with highlights including South Africa, Vietnam, Japan, Central Asia, Peru and Jordan. From the savannahs of Kruger to the temples of Kyoto, the journeys are designed to balance luxury with authentic cultural immersion.

For South Africans, the inclusion of their home country in the line-up is both a source of pride and opportunity. It positions South Africa not just as an adventure destination but also as a premium global travel hub.

Travel With Purpose And Local Character

Bruce Poon Tip, the founder of G Adventures, says the trips will be led by world-leading experts and aim to connect travellers with the essence of each destination. Accommodation will be carefully selected, with a preference for locally owned high-end properties that reflect the culture and character of the region.

This is a notable shift in luxury travel. Instead of relying on international hotel chains, the itineraries will uplift local businesses, ensuring that the tourism spend benefits communities directly.

Designed For Small Groups

Each itinerary will host a maximum of 22 travellers, striking a balance between exclusivity and shared experience. This smaller group size ensures more personalised service, deeper storytelling from guides, and access to unique venues often unavailable to larger tours.

Bookings for these once-in-a-lifetime experiences will open in January 2026, giving travellers just a year to plan ahead.

Social Buzz And Cultural Reaction

The announcement has already sparked excitement across travel forums and social media platforms. South African tourism commentators have noted that this partnership could help shift international perceptions of Africa from a rugged adventure-only destination to one of refined, luxury travel.

On X, one user wrote: “South Africa finally getting the spotlight it deserves. Safari, wine estates, luxury – we’re more than just the Big Five!”

Meanwhile, travel bloggers are already predicting these trips will sell out fast, citing National Geographic’s strong reputation for immersive storytelling and G Adventures’ proven track record in ethical tourism.

A Fresh Take On Exploration

While the luxury travel market has always existed, this collaboration feels different. It’s not just about five-star hotels and gourmet dining – it’s about pairing that luxury with purpose-driven exploration. For travellers who want comfort without losing authenticity, this is likely to be one of the most anticipated launches of 2026.
