Outdoor X 2026: South Africa’s Biggest Outdoor Expo Returns With Adventure, Food And Family Fun

May 29 - May 31

R130 - R200

There’s something about a South African winter weekend that calls for fresh air, good food, and a proper escape from the daily scroll. That’s exactly what Outdoor X 2026 is promising, as the country’s biggest outdoor and lifestyle expo gears up for another packed three-day run just outside Pretoria.

Set against the open space of Idlewild Country Estate, this year’s edition is shaping up to be the biggest yet. Think more brands, more activities, and more reasons to leave your phone behind and actually experience the outdoors again.

A Massive Playground For Outdoor Lovers

Outdoor X has built a reputation as the go-to event for anyone who enjoys life beyond four walls. In 2026, visitors can expect more than 600 premium outdoor lifestyle brands, all spread across seven themed exhibition zones.

The idea is simple. Whether you’re into camping, road trips, gardening, or just upgrading your patio setup, everything is under one roof. Or rather, under the open sky.

It’s the kind of event where you might arrive looking for a cooler box and leave planning your next overland trip.

Camp X, Adventure X And Everything In Between

Each section of the expo brings its own flavour.

Camp X is where serious campers and weekend warriors meet. Expect the latest off-road caravans, high-end camper vans, and gear that turns any trip into a comfortable getaway.

Adventure X leans into travel inspiration, showcasing destinations and equipment for those planning their next big escape. It also taps into the growing glamping trend, which has been gaining traction among South Africans who want the outdoors without sacrificing comfort.

Lifestyle X shifts the focus to design and creativity, with locally made clothing, furniture, and accessories that reflect the country’s unique style.

Rev Engines, Fire Up Braais And Rethink Your Garden

If you’re more into horsepower than hiking, Auto X delivers a closer look at newly launched vehicles, along with a chance to test-drive on a 4×4 track. It’s a drawcard for Gauteng’s large off-road and bakkie culture, where weekend drives often turn into full-blown adventures.

Then there’s Braai X, which taps into one of South Africa’s most loved traditions. From grills to techniques, this section is all about elevating your braai game. With competitions and masterclasses on offer, it’s easy to imagine a few friendly debates over who really makes the best chops.

Garden X rounds things off by bringing the outdoors home. It focuses on turning everyday spaces into places where you actually want to spend time, something that has become more important for many South Africans in recent years.

Adrenaline, Food And A Touch Of Luxury

Beyond the exhibitions, Outdoor X leans heavily into experience.

Visitors can take to the skies with helicopter rides over the nearby Rietvlei Nature Reserve, test their limits on rock climbing setups, or hop onto monster trucks for something a little less subtle. There’s also axe throwing, K9 search and rescue demonstrations, and social games like cross-net volleyball to keep the energy up.

Food plays a big role too. Expect a mix of street food stalls, casual bites, and live acoustic music that gives the event a laid-back, festival feel.

For those looking to slow things down, the Lifestyle Fair adds a more refined touch. With over 50 wines, spirits, and liqueurs available for tasting, plus a dedicated cocktail bar, it offers a different kind of escape for the day.

Why Events Like This Matter Right Now

In a time where screens dominate most of our waking hours, events like Outdoor X tap into something deeper. South Africans have always had a strong outdoor culture, from road trips and bush getaways to backyard braais with friends.

Outdoor X brings all of that together in one place. It’s not just about shopping or browsing. It’s about reconnecting with a lifestyle that many people feel they don’t make enough time for anymore.
