Triple Triumph for Pinnacle College at IIE-Vega VIBE Competition

Published

on

Students from Pinnacle College won all three of the top spots in the inter-school brand challenge, leaving a lasting impression at this year’s IIE-Vega VIBE Johannesburg regional finals.

Every year, high school students compete nationally in the VIBE (Vega Interschool Brand Experience) event, which is hosted by IIE-Vega and involves them in creating a real-world marketing brief. Students’ creative and strategic thinking skills are developed while they get a taste of the branding and design industry through the challenge.

Plat? Coffee, a rapidly expanding specialty coffee brand, provided this year’s brief. The student teams were given the challenge of developing a creative marketing strategy that would appeal to the company’s current, older clientele while also drawing in new ones.

Pinnacle College Takes the Lead

First place went to Pinnacle College Linden Team One, followed by Pinnacle College Kyalami in second and Pinnacle College Linden Team Two in third. In a field of 14 teams from eight high schools in Johannesburg, including Crawford Lonehill, Fourways High, and Jeppe High School for Girls, they won handily.

Each member of the winning team received R1,000, and the winning team received a R7,000 Takealot voucher for their school. Additionally, vouchers for the school and students were given to the second and third-place teams.

Transforming Innovation into Practical Effects

IIE-Vega Johannesburg’s head of student recruitment, Robin Samuels, claims that the VIBE competition is still a motivating forum for young people’s growth.

Seeing students infuse our campus spaces with so much vitality and inventiveness was encouraging. We were reminded of the importance of investing in young talent by their zeal and innovative ideas,” Samuels said.

Winning isn’t the only goal of the competition. Additionally, it aims to introduce students to the branding industry and provide an overview of potential careers in marketing, business, and design. The competition now advances to the national finals, where the top regional teams will compete for the overall title after regional rounds were held in Johannesburg, Durban, Cape Town, and Pretoria.

Developing Future-Ready Skills

Activities such as VIBE are essential for preparing students for life after high school. Working on a brand brief gives them practical experience in problem-solving, teamwork, and strategic thinking, whether they decide to pursue a creative career or enter the business world.

Additionally, Pinnacle College’s performance this year demonstrates that extraordinary things are possible when talent and opportunity come together.
