Taking Off Again: A Local Look at AERO South Africa 2025

The roar of jet engines, the gleam of cockpit glass, and the quiet thrill of innovation – AERO South Africa returns to Lanseria International Airport from 25 to 27 June 2025, bringing together a sky-high celebration of aviation, business, and next-gen thinking.

Now in its fifth year, this annual event has become the continent’s premier gathering for general aviation professionals, aircraft enthusiasts, and curious minds alike. With free entry (online registration required), it stands out as one of Johannesburg’s most accessible and exciting aviation events.

But this isn’t just an airshow. It’s where the future of African skies gets mapped out, one demo flight and smart city conversation at a time.

What’s on the Radar: Key Highlights

This year, expect 61 exhibitors showcasing everything from original equipment manufacturers and maintenance providers to pilot training academies and aviation associations. Static aircraft displays will line Lanseria’s runway, while demo flights offer potential buyers – and wide-eyed spectators – a rare chance to experience takeoff firsthand.

The popular Park & Sell area returns, where pre-owned planes are on offer, turning “window shopping” into hangar-hopping.

Beyond the spectacle, workshops and business matchmaking sessions will tackle current aviation challenges, explore innovative solutions, and connect airspace with economic growth.

Gauteng’s Smart Skies Vision Takes Centre Stage

A highlight of the event is the Smart Cities, Smart Skies Conference, held on Wednesday and Friday (25 & 27 June) inside the Aeronautical Aviation Hangar.

Presented in partnership with the Gauteng Tourism Authority, Gauteng Growth and Development Agency, City of Tshwane, and Aeronautical Aviation, this two-day conference explores how aviation is becoming integral to smart city infrastructure – especially in fast-evolving regions like Johannesburg, where airspace, logistics, and technology intersect.

Think beyond airports. This includes urban planning, drone regulation, and air mobility innovation – all key to Gauteng’s vision of interconnected cities with the sky as a vital artery.

Flying Futures: Youth Development Takes Flight

On Thursday, 26 June, the event takes a heartfelt turn with the Youth Development Programme, supported by Air Traffic & Navigation Services (ATNS).

Targeting school learners and early-career explorers, this initiative goes beyond brochures. It offers mentorship, career pathway guidance, and hands-on experiences – answering South African youth’s growing ambition to enter the aviation industry.

In a country challenged by high unemployment and limited access to aviation careers, this programme is a vital equalizer.

Aviation industry event, flight demonstrations, private aircraft fly-ins, Lanseria Airport showcase, general aviation networking, aircraft sales zone, youth development in aviation, African aviation expo, smart city infrastructure talks, aviation safety workshops, pilot career opportunities, aircraft maintenance exhibitors, aviation trade show South Africa, innovative air mobility, AERO South Africa exhibition, Joburg ETC

The Social Altitude: Why Locals Are Talking

A scroll through #AEROSA2025 on social media reveals Joburgers’ excitement about the fly-ins – guest pilots arriving in their own aircraft and parking on site, turning the event into a vibrant Instagram grid of aviation pride. Expect everything from sleek jets to vintage taildraggers.

There’s also buzz around notable attendees, including aviation veterans and local celebrities like Maps Maponyane and DJ Fresh, both known for their passion for flying. Fans are eager for sightings both on the ground and in the sky.

How to Get There (and Why You Should)

Lanseria International Airport is the event hub – just a 40-minute drive from central Johannesburg. Whether flying in or taking a ride-share, it’s easily accessible, with parking and shuttle services available.

Doors open Wednesday to Friday, from 9am to 4pm. Entry is free, but online registration is essential.

Why AERO South Africa Still Matters

In a world where innovation is rapid but genuine connection is rare, AERO South Africa 2025 is more than an expo – it’s a grounded reminder of how far we’ve come and how much further the skies can take us.

Whether you’re scouting aircraft, chasing a childhood dream, or simply there to witness takeoffs against Johannesburg’s winter-blue skies, Lanseria’s runway will be the city’s most exciting strip this June.
