Marumo Gallants Humiliate Stellenbosch to Storm Into Carling Knockout Semifinals
Marumo Gallants produced a masterclass on a rain-soaked Wednesday night, thrashing Stellenbosch FC 4–0 at the Dr. Petrus Molemela Stadium to seal their place in the Carling Knockout Cup semifinals.
A Statement Win for Bahlabane Ba Ntwa
It was a night that belonged entirely to Gallants. From the opening whistle, the Limpopo outfit looked sharper, hungrier, and more determined to make a statement. While Stellenbosch still glowing from their recent CAF Confederation Cup qualification began brightly, they quickly lost their rhythm after a string of missed chances from Devin Titus and Langelihle Phili.
Gallants punished those errors ruthlessly. In the 28th minute, Ndabayithethwa Ndlondlo opened the scoring with a slick finish from Katlego Otladisa’s cross, sending the home crowd into raptures and shifting momentum firmly in their favour.
Turning the Screws in the Rain
As the rain came down harder, Gallants only grew stronger. The midfield trio controlled possession and tempo, outmuscling Stellies and forcing them into errors. Veteran goalkeeper Washington Arubi produced a key save to deny Andre De Jong, ensuring Gallants went into halftime with their slender lead intact.
When play resumed, Ndlondlo struck again this time with a stunning curling shot past Oscarine Masuluke that showcased his class and composure. Stellenbosch’s attempts to claw back were half-hearted despite substitutions from coach Steve Barker, who introduced Sanele Barns, Lesiba Nku, and Khiba to inject energy into the side.
Ruthless Finishing Seals the Rout
Gallants, however, refused to take their foot off the pedal. Monde Mpambaniso capitalised on a defensive blunder to make it 3–0 before Edgar Manaka’s towering header from a corner completed the humiliation.
By full-time, it was clear that Bahlabane Ba Ntwa had delivered one of their most complete performances of the season not just in attack, but in discipline, structure, and hunger.
Fans Celebrate the Comeback Spirit
On social media, fans hailed the victory as a “statement of intent” from a club that has endured a rollercoaster few seasons. “This is the Gallants we know fighting spirit, pride, and power,” one user posted on X .
The 4–0 victory not only booked Gallants a spot in the Carling Knockout semifinals but also reignited belief among supporters that the club could challenge for silverware once again.
