King of the Whip 2025 Returns to Montecasino with Bigger Jumps and Global Stars
Where Motocross Meets Mayhem
If there’s one event that knows how to make Johannesburg roar, it’s King of the Whip. The annual freestyle motocross showdown is returning to Montecasino on 29 November 2025, promising bigger jumps, louder engines, and heart-stopping tricks that will leave fans breathless.
Presented by Volkswagen and LW Mag, in partnership with Monster Energy, Yamaha, Garmin, Motul, Fox Racing, GoPro, and Estrella Cerveza, this adrenaline-fuelled contest is now a fixture on South Africa’s motorsport calendar. And judging by the thousands of fans already marking their calendars, this year’s event is gearing up to be an unforgettable ride.
The Best of the Best Take Flight
The format is simple but fierce: South Africa’s top motocross daredevils will battle the world’s elite in two main events, Best Whip and FMX Best Trick. The day kicks off at 2:30 pm with fans getting a close-up look at the riders during the Pit Walk. VIP and VVIP ticket holders can arrive earlier at 1 pm for an exclusive meet-and-greet session before the real action begins at 4 pm.
The competition will unfold through qualifying, semi-finals, and finals, with riders scored for style, amplitude, and variation. When the sun goes down, the finals will light up under a sky of fireworks, the perfect backdrop for gravity-defying stunts that push every limit imaginable.
And it’s not just about glory. Riders will be fighting for a cash prize purse and high-end gear from the event’s sponsors.
Familiar Faces and Fierce Rivalries
Belgium’s Julien Vanstippen, fresh off another X-Games gold medal, is returning to defend his King of the Whip crown. After clinching three consecutive wins, he’s now the man to beat, but the competition is hungry.
Australian sensation Pat Bowden, last year’s FMX Best Trick champion, is expected to raise the bar even higher with a new arsenal of inverted and upright moves that redefine aerial precision.
On the home front, South African favourites Dallan Goldman and Dalton Venter will carry local hopes into the arena. Goldman, a freestyle motocross pioneer, and Venter, the 2024 national Motocross champion, are both crowd magnets who know how to feed off the energy of their fans.
The full local and international rider lineup will be revealed soon, but anticipation is already building among the more than 4,500 fans who’ve expressed interest in attending.
More Than a Competition
Beyond the engines and pyrotechnics, King of the Whip has become a community experience, a place where families, bikers, and thrill-seekers gather for a full day of entertainment. Food stalls, drinks, live music, and a buzzing outdoor vibe make Montecasino the perfect venue for this mix of speed and spectacle.
Tickets start from R300 via Howler, and fans are encouraged to book early, as this event has sold out in previous years.
This November, Joburg’s skyline won’t just be glowing; it’ll be flying.
