14-Hour Power Outage Planned For Parts Of Gauteng This Sunday
Residents in several communities north of Tshwane are being urged to prepare for a lengthy power interruption this weekend, as Eskom carries out scheduled maintenance on its electricity network.
The power utility has confirmed that a 14-hour outage will take place on Sunday, 15 March, affecting parts of Ga-Rankuwa, Mabopane, Motlhotlung and Winterveld. Electricity will be switched off from 07:00 in the morning until 21:00 in the evening, leaving households and businesses without power for most of the day.
The planned shutdown forms part of Eskom’s ongoing efforts to maintain and strengthen its electricity distribution infrastructure.
Planned Maintenance To Affect Several Communities
According to Eskom, technicians will be working on sections of the distribution network that require maintenance to ensure the system continues operating safely and efficiently.
To allow crews to carry out this work, electricity supply to the affected areas will need to be temporarily suspended for the full duration of the maintenance window.
The utility said the interruption is necessary to ensure technicians can safely access and service power lines and related infrastructure.
Residents in the affected communities are encouraged to plan ahead by charging essential devices and making arrangements for the extended outage period.
Safety Warning For Residents
Eskom has also reminded residents to exercise caution during the scheduled outage.
Even when power appears to be off, electrical appliances should still be treated as though they are live. This is because electricity could be restored earlier than expected once maintenance work is completed.
For safety reasons, residents are advised to avoid tampering with electrical equipment and to remain cautious when switching appliances on after power returns.
Eskom Apologises For The Inconvenience
The power utility acknowledged that the lengthy outage may disrupt daily routines for both households and businesses across the affected areas.
Eskom expressed appreciation for the public’s patience while the necessary maintenance work takes place.
However, the utility also noted that operational factors could still affect the schedule. If unforeseen circumstances arise, the maintenance work may be delayed or adjusted.
For now, residents in Ga-Rankuwa, Mabopane, Motlhotlung and Winterveld are encouraged to prepare for a full day without electricity and plan accordingly.
