Suspected Hijackers Killed in Shootout with Police in GautengExplosives Found in Vehicle
Two suspected robbers were shot dead after allegedly opening fire on police during a dramatic high-speed chase in Sebokeng, Gauteng.
The confrontation escalated into a tense shootout that ended with the suspects’ vehicle capsizing, with explosives later recovered at the scene.
The Incident
Police said the incident unfolded when members of Gauteng’s Tactical Response Team were patrolling along Houtkop Road and spotted a suspicious vehicle.
Officers quickly established that the car had allegedly been hijacked and was fitted with false registration plates , prompting them to move in.
Officers activated their sirens and attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver allegedly sped off.
A high-speed chase ensued, with gunfire reportedly erupting as the suspects allegedly fired at pursuing officers.
Police returned fire while maintaining the pursuit. The situation escalated when the fleeing vehicle lost control and overturned.
One of the suspects reportedly scrambled from the wreck and attempted to flee, but collapsed just metres away. Both men were declared dead at the scene by paramedics.

The items have since been seized for forensic examination.
“The vehicle was confirmed to have been stolen and linked to a Carletonville case reported in January 2026 .”
