What to expect at Taste of Cultures

The Apartheid Museum in Ormonde will host the Taste of Cultures Food Festival on Saturday, 23 May 2026, running from 10:00 until 15:00. The event is held in partnership with SOJO Business and Tourism and Zaza Legacy Markets.

Where and when

The museum is located at Northern Parkway and Gold Reef Road in Ormonde, Johannesburg South. The festival forms part of activities recognising Africa Month.

Tickets and entry

South African citizens pay R170 for adults and R120 for children, students and pensioners; South African identification is required. For international visitors, tickets cost R240 for adults and R190 for children, students and pensioners.

Cuisines and stalls

Organisers say attendees can sample a wide range of dishes that reflect African cultures, including cuisine from Afrikaans and Zulu traditions, alongside international offerings. The festival will feature arts and crafts stalls and live entertainment.

“It’s various cultures,” said museum representative Mduduzi Ntuli. “So it’s not just SADC, it’s not just tribes, but it’s sort of like the global community.”

Festival context in Joburg

The Taste of Cultures Food Festival adds to a busy Johannesburg festival calendar. The city has hosted a growing number of food-focused events in recent years, offering local food lovers more opportunities to explore diverse cuisines.

Practical notes

The festival runs for five hours on the stated date; attendees should bring valid South African identification if claiming local ticket rates. The event includes food vendors, arts and crafts and live performances.
