State says Nice Time Bozzas ordered Gqeberha constable’s killing as ‘reparation’ after drug robbery

Three men accused of killing Constable Cállan Andrews appeared in the Gqeberha high court on 21 July 2026, where the State set out an allegation that senior figures in the Nice Time Bozzas gang ordered the killing as reparation after a drug post was robbed on New Year’s Eve 2024.

What the indictment says

The State’s indictment, read in court, alleges that a drug outlet linked to the Nice Time Bozzas (N.T.B) was robbed on the morning of 31 December 2024. The indictment says Damian Brooks described by the State as a senior figure in the gang was enraged by the theft and instructed a younger gang member to “correct the loss” in line with gang lore.

According to the charge sheet, the younger accused and Chadwin Visagie were members of the gang. The State alleges that, later that day, Andrews and his partner responded to a domestic-violence complaint in Voisen Road, Helenvale. Their marked Nissan Hi-Rider police vehicle broke down; the vehicle was pushed from Voisen Road into Reynders Street and then into Kobus Road.

The indictment says Brooks saw the broken-down vehicle and instructed the minor to rob Andrews of his service pistol to make reparation for the gang’s stolen drugs. The State alleges the minor shot Andrews at close range, stole his service firearm and handed it to Visagie, who ran from the scene to hide the weapon. Andrews later died in Livingstone Hospital.

The indictment states that Visagie later pointed out where the service pistol had been concealed. On 7 January 2025 he identified the weapon at a property in Bocharts Street, more than a kilometre from Kobus Road, the State says.

Court appearance and charges

The three accused Visagie, Brooks and a third person who was arrested while still a minor appeared in the high court on 21 July 2026 facing a range of charges including murder and offences linked to organised criminal gang activity. The three, the State says, have been behind bars for more than a year. They have been remanded and their case was postponed to 6 August 2026 to allow them to apply for legal aid.

Community and aftermath

The indictment notes that the accused are allegedly linked to the N.T.B gang by tattoos and territorial markings. The killing occurred in gang-plagued northern areas of Gqeberha, where gang-related violence has prompted a broader security response in the province, the State says.
