What happened
The department said the crash occurred on the N4 between Ngodwana and Nelspruit (Mbombela) in the early hours of Thursday morning. Emergency services attended the scene where victims were found following the collision.
Casualties and official comment
Seven people have reportedly died as a result of the crash. Department spokesperson Moeti Mmusi told IOL that four people died at the scene.
“Three occupants of one of the minibuses were burned beyond recognition,” Mmusi said.
The department said it would provide further updates as more information became available.
