Three men were shot dead inside a Toyota in Khayelitsha after a passenger opened fire. Police say the suspect fled and inquiries are ongoing.
Three men were shot dead inside a car in Khayelitsha after a fellow passenger produced a firearm and opened fire, police said.
What happened
Police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk said the incident took place on Joe Gqabi Street in Town Two, Makhaza at 12:30 pm on Wednesday. “Preliminary investigations indicate that all three deceased persons were inside the Toyota vehicle when another passenger randomly started shooting at fellow passengers,” he said.
Police response and findings
SAPS members responded and found the body of an adult male with multiple gunshot wounds inside a grey Toyota vehicle. About 500 metres from that scene, another male was found dead with multiple gunshot wounds. While at the second scene, a third body was discovered in Tabang Street.
“The suspect subsequently fled,” Captain van Wyk said. He added that the deceased males are yet to be identified and that the motive is yet to be determined.
Investigation under way
Detectives from the provincial serious and violent crime unit were following leads to locate the gunman, police said.
