Footage shared on social media appears to show four armed men entering a home in Valhalla, Pretoria, and approaching what may be the residents’ bedrooms before a barking dog sends them turning back, Joburg ETC reports.

The video was shared on X by Maverick (@MaxPatricius), who describes the incident as ‘Armed robbers going for sleeping residents in Valhalla, Pretoria’.

The men can be seen moving through the home, approaching interior doorways one by one. When the dog begins barking, they turn around and leave the property.

The viral post draws attention to the apparent weapons and gloves worn by the individuals, telling viewers to ‘Note the gloves, guns and weapons’. The caption also urges people to turn up their volume, adding ‘Volume UP’.

The dog’s presence inside the home is another detail highlighted in the post, which notes that ‘their dog sleeps inside’. The footage appears to show the animal barking as the men move through the property, followed by their departure.

It remains unclear when the incident occurred, whether the residents were harmed or whether anything was stolen. The circumstances surrounding the footage, including whether a police investigation has been opened, have not been independently confirmed.

An Australian study shows that the presence of dogs prevents up to 61.4% of robberies. South African Police Service’s home safety guidance also identifies dogs as a deterrent and includes them among biological alarm systems.
