Applications opened online on Wednesday, 21 October and will close on 13 November 2026.

Announcing the nationwide intake on X, SAPS encouraged aspiring recruits with the necessary qualifications and fitness levels to consider a career in the service, using the call: ‘Your future. Your country. Your call.’

Trainees will receive a monthly stipend of R5 000 during training. Those who successfully complete basic training will be considered for appointment as constables, with an advertised salary of R248 175 per year.

Who can apply for SAPS police trainee posts?

Applicants must be South African citizens aged between 18 and 35 at the closing date, hold a Grade 12 certificate or equivalent and speak English and at least one other official language. They must also have no previous criminal convictions or pending criminal cases.

The selection process includes physical and medical examinations, psychological and integrity assessments, interviews and security vetting. Tattoos visible while wearing a police uniform are not permitted.

Applicants with relevant three-year qualifications at NQF Level 6 or higher may be considered for specialist units, including Crime Intelligence and Detective and Forensic Services.

Applications must be submitted through the official SAPS eRecruitment portal. Candidates are limited to one application and SAPS warns applicants not to pay anyone for assistance or recruitment.

Successful trainees may be required to complete their training at any SAPS academy in South Africa, with meals, accommodation and training gear provided during the basic training phase.
