Update : ‘I Need to Be in Durban!’: FlySafair Passenger Causes Flight Chaos

Update – A routine FlySafair flight from Johannesburg to Cape Town was thrown into chaos this past weekend when a disruptive passenger triggered an emergency diversion to Bloemfontein.
Video footage captured by a fellow traveller has gone viral, showing the moment crew and passengers were forced to restrain a man mid-air after his erratic behaviour left the flight crew with no choice but to make an unscheduled landing.

According to TikTok user @kundaimurapa, who was onboard Flight FA600, the trouble began after the passenger reportedly became enraged over receiving the wrong change for a bottle of water. He then began threatening other passengers and shouting that he needed to be in Durban — even though the flight was headed to Cape Town.
As the situation escalated, two passengers with security backgrounds stepped in to subdue the individual using cable ties, helping to protect others on board. The captain decided to divert the flight to Bloemfontein for the safety of all passengers and crew.
Footage shows the man being restrained while a flight attendant stands nearby. He is then escorted to an empty seat before two police officers arrive on the aircraft. With help from one of the passengers, the officers remove the man, prompting applause from those onboard.
The disruptive incident has since been widely shared on social media and discussed in the FlyAfrica Facebook community, where eyewitnesses praised the actions of the “happy helpers” who kept the situation under control.
FlySafair has yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
