South Africans love a good love story. When it involves one of the country’s rugby heroes and his long-term partner, even better. This week, Springbok fly-half Handré Pollard and his wife, Marise, quietly celebrated a big milestone. Eight years of marriage, thirteen years together, two children, and a life that has taken them across continents.

A wedding day worth remembering

Marise marked the occasion by sharing a sentimental snippet from their wedding day on her Instagram stories. She wrote simply: Eight years today. The clip was filmed at Cavalli Estate in the Cape Winelands, where the couple said their vows in 2017. It was a meaningful celebration for a couple who have built a life filled with travel and adventure.

Their family has also grown along the way. Their first child, Hunter, arrived in April 2024. Their daughter, Isabella, followed in October 2025. Parenthood has added a new chapter to their love story, and people have followed their journey with interest as they share glimpses of family life.

A life built together across the globe

Looking back on her birthday this year, Marise thanked Handré for the shared journey. She mentioned the countries they have lived in and the dreams that turned into reality. Her post reflected the kind of partnership that has remained strong despite the challenges of constant travel and sporting commitments.

Back home, where it all began

After spending the past few years in the United Kingdom while Handré played for Leicester Tigers, the Pollards are settling back home. They are staying with Marise’s parents for now while preparing for a new home currently under construction. Their belongings are still travelling back from the UK by sea, which is a reminder of just how big a move this has been.

For Handré, signing a two-year deal with the Bulls in Pretoria has brought him full circle. The World Cup winner said he is grateful to be home and excited for what lies ahead. Rugby supporters are happy to see him return to the South African scene.

Celebration with a fresh start

Eight years of marriage is already a reason to celebrate. Coming home, raising two little ones, and building a future in the country they love makes it even more special. The Pollards have plenty to look forward to. Their anniversary marks not only the years behind them but also a brand new beginning for the family in South Africa.
