South African rugby captain Siya Kolisi has been making the most of his American adventure, and this week, it included a truly unforgettable Broadway moment.
Kolisi attended “Hell’s Kitchen,” the new musical inspired by multi-award-winning singer Alicia Keys, and had the chance to meet her backstage. The 35-year-old shared the experience on Instagram, calling it a “powerful journey about finding your voice, your purpose and the people who lift you up.”
In a series of posts, Kolisi posed with Keys, smiled outside the Shubert Theatre, and captured the iconic theatre lights spelling out: “Hell’s Kitchen – A New Musical From Alicia Keys.” He also shared a video expressing his gratitude and excitement:
“And guys, I did invite her to SA, ndithe makaze azosibona e’SA (I said she must come visit us in SA) so hopefully she’ll come perform in SA.”
The sentiment resonated with fans, who flooded his comments with excitement over the possibility of Keys performing in South Africa.
The Broadway visit was just one highlight in Kolisi’s busy US itinerary. During his time in New York City, he visited the Juilliard School, grabbed coffee at a local café, and even braved the heights of the Empire State Building, joking about his fear of heights.
He also caught up with American football player Paschal Ekeji Jr. and shared some laughs while signing gear, keeping fans updated on his adventures almost daily.
Before New York, Kolisi attended the NBA All-Star game in Los Angeles, mingling with personalities like former NBA star Festus Ezeli, rapper and actor Ludacris, actor Sterling Brown, and Canadian actress Annie Murphy.
Fans have also noticed that Kolisi has not been travelling solo. Rachel John appears to be accompanying him, based on overlapping posts from both of them showing NBA All-Star events and NYC sightseeing.
Social media enthusiasts have pointed out the striking similarities in their shared content, suggesting that the pair are enjoying the US trip together.
From Broadway lights to NBA arenas, Siya Kolisi is making his US adventure one to remember and he’s making sure his fans back home get a front-row seat. With the Alicia Keys invitation extended, there’s even talk of bringing a bit of Broadway magic to South Africa soon.
