Jojo Robinson turns her Labubu doll into permanent art

Reality television fans know Jojo Robinson for her quick wit, unfiltered humour and ever-growing collection of tattoos. The Real Housewives of Durban star has now taken her ink game to a whole new level by having her Labubu doll’s face tattooed on her neck.

It has been two years in the making. Robinson, already covered from neck to toe, returned to tattoo artist Mike Artura to finish the intricate design that had been left incomplete. This time, she made sure Martin, her “firstborn” Labubu doll, was part of the picture.

“Clearly, I don’t have commitment issues,” she told her followers with a laugh. “After 2 years, I finally got brave enough to finish my neck … We don’t need to share the details on how I managed to sit through it.”

Humour, pain, and a little tattoo advice

Robinson is no stranger to the sting of a needle, but even she admits that this one came with its quirks. She joked about making the questionable choice of taking sleeping tablets before her appointment, warning fans it was “not a vibe.”

Days later, she posted an update from “the peeling phase” and said the pain was surprisingly manageable. “Get a neck tattoo,” she teased. “It hasn’t been that bad.”

Her Instagram followers have grown used to her candid, behind-the-scenes tattoo diaries, including a throwback earlier this month to the 30-plus hours it took to complete each of her full leg sleeves. She recalled crying during blackout sections and being unable to walk after long sessions but insists it was worth every second.

Martin gets inked too

Not content with just immortalising Martin on her skin, Robinson also gave the doll his own tattoos, two teardrops and the word “bad” on his face. Artura shared the moment on social media, writing, “Never a dull moment with @mrs.jojo.robinson.”

It is all part of a journey that has seen Robinson invest between R200 000 and R300 000, possibly more, into her tattoos over the past eight years. Each design, she says, tells a personal story and helps her embrace her body as a work of art.

With only around 15 percent of her full-body sleeve left to complete (her face being the only no-go zone), Robinson shows no signs of slowing down. And if Martin’s recent makeover is any indication, her next tattoo chapter will be just as playful as the last.
