Rachel Kolisi Says ‘I’m Broken’ As She Previews Raw New Documentary
Rachel Kolisi is stepping into a new light, sharing a vulnerable and deeply personal side of herself that South Africans have rarely witnessed. The director, speaker and estranged wife of Springboks captain Siya Kolisi released the first look at her upcoming documentary, a project she describes as honest, unfiltered and rooted in truth.
The preview dropped on her Instagram on Wednesday 10 December, immediately sparking conversation across social media. Many South Africans have followed the Kolisi family’s journey for years, and the glimpse into Rachel’s emotional landscape arrives just months after news of the couple’s split.
A Glimpse Into A Difficult Season
The documentary’s opening moments take viewers back to October 2024, the same month the Kolisis publicly announced the end of their eight-year marriage. Rachel speaks candidly about the pressures she faced while juggling motherhood, marriage, philanthropy and her growing professional commitments.
She recalls standing on stages in front of hundreds of people, often being celebrated as someone who seemed to balance life with ease. Yet behind the scenes, she says, that picture-perfect balance simply wasn’t real.
“I didn’t manage it,” she admits in the documentary preview. “A part of me now feels like I failed. And what that’s led me to is a point that I’m broken.”
The honesty struck a chord online, with many praising her courage for speaking openly about burnout, identity and the emotional toll of trying to meet expectations that often feel impossible.
Not A Divorce Story
Shortly after releasing the preview, Rachel took to her Instagram Stories to clarify what the documentary is and what it isn’t. She stressed that the film is not centred on her divorce or the ongoing public speculation surrounding her relationship with Siya.
Instead, it is an intimate journey inward.
“This documentary is not about divorce or public speculation,” reads her press statement. “Falling Forward opens a window into Rachel’s inner world, revealing the moments that challenged her, the truths she had to confront, and the strength she discovered in moving forward when standing still felt easier.”
The title hints at resilience a reminder that even when life unravels, there is still momentum in choosing to rise.
The Kolisi Family’s New Chapter
Rachel and Siya were married for eight years and share two children, Nicholas and Keziah. They also raised Siya’s younger siblings, Liyema and Liphelo, together as a blended family of six. Their story has long resonated with South Africans, who witnessed their journey from a young couple to an influential family in both sports and philanthropy.
Their separation last year came as a shock to many fans, prompting renewed public attention especially as Siya has since been rumoured to be dating 24-year-old influencer Rachel John. Although neither Siya nor Rachel Kolisi has commented on the speculation, social media detectives have kept the conversation alive after noticing that a few Springboks and WAGS follow the younger Rachel.
Still, Rachel Kolisi’s new project makes it clear that her focus is on self-growth, healing and rediscovering her own voice outside of a public partnership.
A Story About Starting Again
Falling Forward promises more than a behind-the-scenes look at a public figure. It offers a relatable story about rebuilding your life when everything familiar changes. It explores motherhood, identity, heartbreak and the courage it takes to confront oneself with honesty.
As South Africans await the full release, one thing is clear: Rachel Kolisi is not telling a story of divorce. She is telling a story of becoming and doing so on her own terms.
