DA Rejects Corruption Allegations Against Minister Dean Macpherson

The Democratic Alliance (DA) has strongly denied corruption allegations against Public Works Minister Dean Macpherson, claiming that such accusations are part of smear campaigns designed to target those fighting corruption.
It is alleged that Macpherson used emails to prioritize white contractors over small minority-owned businesses, with claims of unpaid contractors. In December, Macpherson allegedly intervened to facilitate payment to Lonerock Construction, which was handling a project at Waterkloof Airforce Base. The payment was delayed, and Macpherson sent a letter demanding a report from the Independent Development Trust (IDT) regarding the issue.
The DA responded by asserting that the allegations were suspiciously timed, coinciding with Macpherson’s efforts to expose and stop serious corruption. The party highlighted Macpherson’s investigation into an R800 million oxygen tender scandal involving the IDT. The IDT has been plagued by leadership issues and failed to submit audited financials since August of the previous year.
The DA commended Macpherson for his corruption-busting efforts, which they described as part of a new culture of accountability and transparency.
The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) condemned Macpherson’s involvement with the IDT, stating that it violated National Treasury regulations and the Executive Members’ Ethics Act. The EFF has vowed to open a criminal case against Macpherson in Pretoria.
In response, the DA dismissed the EFF’s criticism, labeling the party as irrelevant and stating that they would not be deterred in their mission to root out corruption.
