Bomb threat at King Phalo Airport prompts security response
A reported bomb threat on an aircraft at King Phalo Airport in the Eastern Cape has prompted a multidisciplinary security response, with all 184 passengers safely disembarking after the aircraft landed.
SAPS confirmed that an unknown caller using a private number alerted authorities to an alleged bomb on board the aircraft.
The aircraft is being held while security personnel follow standard safety protocols and investigate the threat.
A multidisciplinary team has been deployed to the scene, including the SAPS Bomb Disposal Unit, K9 explosive detection dogs, hostage negotiators, Disaster Management, airport security and Emergency Medical Services.
Authorities are investigating the origin of the threat, but no further details have been released at this stage.
SAPS has urged the public not to speculate while security agencies carry out their work. Further updates are expected as more information becomes available.
