Former Emfuleni fleet manager arrested over R16m tender fraud

A former fleet manager at Emfuleni Local Municipality has been arrested in connection with an alleged R16-million vehicle tender fraud investigation.

The 42-year-old suspect was arrested by the Gauteng Political Killings Task Team on charges of fraud and corruption linked to the awarding and implementation of a municipal fleet contract.

According to an Abramjee update on X, investigators stated that the municipality paid about R16 million to a service provider for the delivery of 18 municipal vehicles, including UD trucks and bakkies. Police allege that only seven of the contracted vehicles were delivered, despite the municipality having made full payment.

The suspect is expected to appear in the Vanderbijlpark Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 20 July, where he will face charges of fraud and corruption.

The investigation remains ongoing and authorities have not ruled out further arrests.

The arrest follows previous allegations surrounding the same municipal fleet contract. Earlier this year, Emfuleni Local Municipality opened a criminal case after identifying alleged irregularities linked to the procurement of the vehicles.
