Gauteng still faces load reduction this week full schedule for 20–27 July

Eskom has cleared six provinces of scheduled load reduction, but Gauteng remains among three provinces still affected. The power utility said about 1 190 902 customers and six provinces are no longer impacted, and provided a detailed Gauteng timetable for the week of 20 to 27 July.

What Eskom reported

Eskom said its eradication drive targeted 971 identified feeders across the country and that 564 feeders have been removed from load reduction, equal to approximately 58% of the target. The utility described this as enabling about 1.19 million customers, representing 70% of the 1.69 million customers originally affected, to be removed from load reduction schedules.

The utility noted improvements in generation performance, saying the return of over 5GW of generating capacity over the past three years had contributed to an improved Energy Availability Factor (EAF). Eskom reported the EAF at 65.46% for the financial year-to-date (1 April to 16 July 2026), up from 64.82% the previous week and higher than 58.94% over the same period last year.

Which provinces remain affected

Work continued in the Eastern Cape, Gauteng and KwaZulu‑Natal, which Eskom said remained the only outstanding provinces carrying a share of the national backlog. Eskom said it aimed to reach a seventh province by October 2026 and expected the entire country to be free of load reduction by 2027.

Gauteng’s progress

Of 604 feeders targeted for removal in Gauteng, Eskom reported that 244 have been cleared, representing 40% progress the lowest completion rate among the provinces still affected.

Morning block (5am–9am): Block I areas including Vosloorus A, Vosloorus B, Vosloorus Ext 25, Mabuya Park A and Ramakonopi East.

Evening block (5pm–10pm): Block H areas including Etwatwa Ext 15, Etwatwa Ext 21, Sebokeng Unit 12, Wattville and Boitumelo.

Tuesday, 21 July

Evening block (5pm–10pm): Block J areas including Orange Farm, Stretford Ext 2, Sebokeng Unit 1, Evaton Central and Sharpeville.

Evening block: Block G areas including Ga‑Rankuwa Unit 8, Mabopane Unit A, Klippan, Tsakane Ext 11 and Mokoena.

Evening block: Block F areas including Diepkloof Zone 1, Orlando East, Bram Fischerville, Vereeniging Stretford and Roodepoort.

Wednesday, 22 July

Morning block (5am–9am): Block A areas including Ivory Park Ext 10, Kaalfontein Ext 1, Protea Glen, Meadowlands Zone 2 and Kagiso.

Eskom provided a downloadable document titled Gauteng_JULY-2026-Load-Reduction (1) for residents to check whether their area is impacted.

Where this leaves the national picture

Eskom said load reduction had peaked at affecting approximately 23.5% of its 7.2 million customer base and that the figure has been reduced to about 7% with six provinces cleared. The utility also reported a decline in average unplanned outages between 10 and 16 July 2026 to 7 593MW, down from 13 439MW during the same period the previous year.
