Gauteng PKTT arrests suspect in killing of EFF Tshwane leader Monicca Dube
The Gauteng Political Killings Task Team (PKTT) has arrested a 35-year-old suspect in connection with the murder of Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) Tshwane Region 2 secretary and election coordinator Monicca Dube.
Arrest and court appearance
Police announced the arrest on Wednesday night. The suspect is expected to appear in the Cullinan Magistrate’s Court on Thursday morning.
Details of the killing
National police spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe said Dube, 44, was shot multiple times by armed men at her home in Wallmannsthal, Tshwane, on 13 June 2026.
Previous attempt on her life
According to reports, Dube had survived an earlier attempt on her life in March 2026, when she was allegedly shot 11 times and spent several weeks in intensive care before recovering.
Political and policing response
The EFF in Gauteng welcomed the arrest and said the party’s provincial leadership and members would attend the suspect’s court appearance and bail proceedings.
The Gauteng PKTT was established in March 2026 to investigate political assassinations and high-level organised crime in the province. Its formation followed an announcement by Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi in September 2025 that the province would set up a political killings task team.
South Africa’s first Political Killings Task Team was established in KwaZulu-Natal in 2018, later expanding its mandate to cover cases nationwide.
Investigation ongoing
Police and the PKTT continue their investigation into Dube’s killing and the circumstances surrounding the previous attack earlier this year.
