Bail hearing in Reiger Park murders continues as fourth suspect appears

Three men already charged in the deadly Reiger Park shooting returned to Boksburg Magistrate’s Court on 9 September 2026, and a fourth suspect made his first appearance as bail proceedings continued.

Who appeared in court

The three men who returned to court were Regan Cheslin Collis, 23; Jamal Meyer, 24; and Elvino Levert Crafford, 27. They face four counts of murder, attempted murder, robbery with aggravating circumstances, and unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition in connection with the 7 August shooting in Ekurhuleni.

A fourth man, Mcfoolen Ford, 26, made his first appearance after being arrested on 4 September for alleged possession of an illegal firearm and ammunition. His case was postponed to 21 September to allow for a bail application and for him to consult with legal representation.

Defence presents CCTV and challenges confession

Defence attorney Samkelo Kuzani showed the court CCTV footage which he said placed Collis at home with friends during the shooting, which the defence said occurred outside the yard.

Kuzani said the state had committed an “error in law” that made its case “very weak” and criticised the handling of a confession Collis later retracted. He told the court:

“There is no confession statement that was made by applicant number one (Collis) in the presence of the magistrate,”

and added that for a confession to be admissible it must be reduced into writing in the presence of a magistrate.

State response and next steps

The state is opposing bail and has said witness information links Collis to the shootings.

The three accused are expected back in the dock on 23 September for further bail proceedings.

Victims named

Two members of an anti-gang unit, Constables Thapelo Tlomatsana and Sphiwe Sibeko, and two women, Roleen Lessing and Jaydin Margerman, were killed in the shooting.
