SASSA confirms September 2025 payment dates for old age, disability, and child grants

The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has published its official September 2025 payment schedule, giving millions of beneficiaries clarity on when their grants will be available.

Payment dates for September 2025

  • Old Age Grant: Tuesday, 2 September 2025

  • Disability Grant: Wednesday, 3 September 2025

  • All other grants (including Child Support): Thursday, 4 September 2025

SASSA has once again reminded beneficiaries not to rush to collection points on the first day, urging people to plan their visits to avoid overcrowding and long queues.

SRD grants also confirmed

For those receiving the COVID-19 Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant, payments for August 2025 will be made between 27 and 30 August 2025.
Beneficiaries with a “referred” status have been encouraged to verify their identity online. Once resolved, payments will be processed from the next cycle, including any outstanding amounts.

Watch out for unauthorized deductions

SASSA also used the update to highlight ongoing cases of unauthorised deductions from social grants.

“Only one deduction is allowed per month, up to 10% of your grant, and only if you have given consent,” the agency stressed.

⚠️ If you notice money missing from your grant, you can:

  • Report it immediately at your nearest SASSA office

  • Lodge a dispute via SMS by sending your ID number and the name of the financial services provider to 34548

Why this matters

South Africa has more than 18 million grant recipients, and payment dates are a lifeline for families across the country. With food prices and living costs still rising, timely access to grants can make the difference between survival and struggle for many households.

Public reaction on social media shows both relief at the confirmed dates and frustration over recurring complaints about deductions and system delays.

As one Johannesburg mother posted:

“At least we now know the dates for September. Just hope this time no surprise deductions. Every cent counts.”
