Takealot Expands Delivery Network With More Pick n Pay Pickup Points Across South Africa

Online shopping in South Africa just got even more convenient. Takealot, the country’s biggest ecommerce player, is expanding its collection network by adding more pickup points inside Pick n Pay stores nationwide — and customers are loving it.
Convenience Meets Your Weekly Grocery Run
What started as a two-store trial in 2023 has quickly grown into a national rollout. By the end of 2025, Takealot says shoppers will be able to collect their online orders at 36 different Pick n Pay stores across the country.
So far, 30 stores are already up and running, with another six locations expected to join the network before the end of this year.
These pickup points, usually positioned near the customer service kiosks, offer a simple solution for busy South Africans: get your Takealot order while you stock up on bread and milk. No delivery stress, no missed calls from couriers, and no waiting around at home.
South Africans are Embracing the Option
Between February and May this year, the number of monthly collections at these pickup points doubled, according to Takealot. The service now sees more than 14,000 packages collected per month, serving over 45,000 unique customers — a clear sign that shoppers are leaning into this hybrid online-and-in-store experience.
On social media, users have praised the system for its convenience. “I’m at Pick n Pay every weekend anyway. Now I grab my Takealot parcel with my groceries. Genius!” wrote one Twitter user, while another joked, “If my skincare and snacks come in one trip, I’m sold.”
What Kind of Orders are People Collecting?
While larger or bulkier items still require home delivery, most regular orders are eligible for in-store pickup. The most common purchases? Everyday wellness and lifestyle items. Think vitamins, skincare products, and women’s health essentials — lightweight, useful, and part of people’s regular shopping routines.
In fact, the popularity of these items shows that Takealot’s partnership is not just about ecommerce, but also about seamless lifestyle integration.
Pick n Pay’s Vision: Becoming More Than Just a Supermarket
Pick n Pay says this partnership is part of its broader strategy to transform its stores into multifunctional retail hubs.
“We’re seeing our stores evolve into spaces where customers can do more than just shop for fresh foods and groceries,” said a Pick n Pay spokesperson. “This is about convenience, relevance, and adapting to how South Africans live and shop today.”
A Smart Play in a Competitive Market
With South African ecommerce continuing to grow and delivery challenges still affecting some areas, this partnership offers a clever middle ground. For Takealot, it means more touchpoints without the high cost of standalone collection centres. For Pick n Pay, it drives foot traffic and keeps the brand relevant in an increasingly digital retail world.
Whether you’re picking up supplements or a new pair of headphones, having your Takealot order ready when you buy your groceries is the kind of small win South Africans are here for.
