Teen expected in court over alleged rape of younger siblings in Namakgale

A 16-year-old from Limpopo is expected to appear in the Children’s Justice Court after his arrest in connection with the alleged rape of his two younger siblings in Namakgale.

Alleged incident and disclosure

Police say the alleged assault happened on 15 July 2026 at about 9pm at the family home in Namakgale. The victims are a 12-year-old girl and an eight-year-old boy. The matter came to light on 17 July 2026 when one of the victims told their mother about the incident.

Family reaction and police response

According to provincial police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, the mother confronted her elder son and “he became violent and assaulted his mother.” The mother then reported the matter to police.

Investigation, arrest and hospital examinations

Detectives from the Phalaborwa Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit arrested the suspect on Saturday, 18 July. Both children were taken to a local hospital for medical examination.

“A case of two counts of rape was opened, and community members were involved and managed to apprehend the suspect and handed him over to the local police. He was then arrested,” Ledwaba said.

Next steps

The teenager is expected to appear before the Children’s Justice Court in the Namakgale Magistrate’s Court on Monday. Police said investigations into the crime continue.
