Unknown woman found shot in Laudium veld as police probe
Police discovered the body of an unknown adult woman in a Laudium field after residents reported hearing gunshots early on Monday, authorities said.
Early-morning discovery
Tshwane district police spokesperson Captain Johan van Dyk said police were informed at about 7am on Monday that a body was lying in the veld. Emergency Medical Services attended the scene and declared the woman dead.
Preliminary findings
Van Dyk said police found the body of an unknown white adult female, and that preliminary observations revealed she had sustained two gunshot wounds to the head.
Witness reports and scene processing
Residents in the area reported hearing gunshots at about 5:30am but did not go outside to investigate, van Dyk said. Crime Scene Management experts attended and processed the scene for possible clues and evidential material.
Investigation status
Van Dyk said no suspects had been identified and that the identity of the deceased remained unknown. Investigations are continuing.
Commentary from experts
“It is a sad day a woman would be shot and not a single member of her community responded,”
said criminal law expert Cornelia van Graan.
“Worryingly, a human’s life is currently taken for granted,”
said Prof Witness Maluleke, head of the University of Limpopo’s criminology and criminal justice department.
Police appealed for anyone with information to come forward as inquiries continue.
