South African football legend Janine van Wyk is proving that passion knows no borders. As she prepares to begin her first international coaching job in Sweden with Kristianstads DFF in 2026, the former Banyana Banyana captain says she’ll still be steering the ship at JVW FC, the women’s club she founded and continues to nurture from afar.

A New Chapter Abroad

Kristianstads DFF recently announced Van Wyk’s appointment as part of their technical setup marking her debut coaching role outside South Africa. Having earned her UEFA B coaching license three years ago, the move is a natural next step in her football journey.

It’s a new challenge, and one I’m really looking forward to,” Van Wyk told SABC Sport. “I’ll still be very hands-on with JVW, even though I’ll be working remotely. Technology makes it possible through reports, video calls, and online meetings to stay connected with my coaches and the team.”

Still Leading From A Distance

Despite her upcoming relocation, Van Wyk made it clear that her heart remains firmly tied to her club. As head of coaches at JVW FC, she’ll continue guiding her technical team, reviewing training sessions, and offering strategic input.

I’m just a phone call or message away,” she said. “With Google Meets and Teams, I can still lead and make sure we’re aligned on the club’s vision. It’s about staying consistent with what we’ve built.

Keeping The Core Intact

JVW FC, currently competing in the Hollywoodbets Super League, has enjoyed one of its most consistent seasons yet. Van Wyk believes that continuity is the secret to further success.

“With the direction the team is heading, I want to keep the core group together,” she explained. “We’ve built something strong, and I don’t want to make too many changes. This season has been quite successful, and I want to carry that momentum into 2026.”

A Pioneer’s Legacy

Van Wyk’s dual commitment leading a South African club while taking up a European post highlights her enduring influence on women’s football. On social media, fans have applauded her for continuing to uplift the local game even as she breaks new ground abroad.

Her journey from Banyana Banyana captain to club founder and now international coach paints the picture of a leader determined to grow the game both at home and overseas.

For South Africa’s most-capped player, it’s clear that her next chapter is as much about giving back as it is about growth proving once again why Janine van Wyk remains one of the most respected figures in the game.
