In a significant gathering aimed at reshaping international dialogue, over 200 media professionals, think tank experts, and government representatives from across Africa and China have converged in South Africa for the Global South Media and Think Tank Forum.
The two-day conference, jointly organized by China’s Xinhua News Agency and the African Union, brings together voices from more than 160 institutions across 41 African nations. The central mission is to carve out a more influential role for the Global South in world affairs and to deepen the strategic partnership between China and Africa.
A Platform for a Shared Vision
Under the theme “Reforming Global Governance: New Roles and Visions for China-Africa Cooperation,” the forum will tackle three critical topics:
-
China-Africa Commitments to Global Governance Reform
-
China-Africa Action for Global South Revitalization
-
China-Africa Exchange in Global Civilizational Coexistence
These discussions are designed to move beyond rhetoric and develop concrete strategies for how these regions can jointly advocate for a more “just and rational global governance system.”
Beyond Talk: Launching Tangible Initiatives
The forum is set to be more than just a talking shop. Key deliverables include the launch of a major think tank report, “Jointly Building a New Model of Global Leadership,” which will serve as a strategic roadmap for future collaboration.
Another significant initiative is the establishment of the Global South Joint Communication Partnership Network, backed by the “United in Heart, Path, and Action – 2026 China-Africa Partnership Empowerment Action Plan.” This network aims to synchronize communication and advocacy efforts, ensuring the narratives and priorities of the Global South are amplified on the world stage.
The event also features cultural exchanges, highlighting the traditions of China’s Hunan Province alongside its African partners, symbolizing the “all-weather” community the forum seeks to promote.
By uniting influential media and policy minds, the forum aims to position the Global South not just as participants in global conversations, but as a cohesive and stabilizing force driving a new, more inclusive vision for international cooperation.
