Kgosientsho Ramokgopa has presented an energy action plan to Cabinet

Electricity Minister Kgosientsho Ramokgopa has presented an energy action plan to Cabinet amidst rolling power cuts. Eyewitness News reports the national energy crisis committee will convene a meeting to discuss solutions to the crisis.

Ramokgopa emphasised that South Africa’s commitments to climate change should not require straining the country’s economy. The minister argued that decommissioning Eskom’s ailing power plants should not be rushed. Still, instead a tough balancing act is required.

Cabinet has acknowledged Ramokgopa’s plan, which includes short and medium-term solutions and considers the country’s energy needs. The government has ordered the next national energy crisis committee meeting to address another assessment of the electricity situation and measures to tackle it.
