Springboks vs Barbarians: Historic clash confirmed for Cape Town

South African rugby fans are in for a historic occasion as the Barbarians are set to play their first-ever match on South African soil, taking on the world champion Springboks at Cape Town Stadium on 28 June.
The much-anticipated clash marks the ninth meeting between the two sides, and their first encounter since a dramatic 31-31 draw at Wembley Stadium in 2016. This fixture will offer a thrilling blend of flair and power, as the Barbarians — rugby’s legendary invitational team — bring their multi-national spirit to the Southern Hemisphere.

Veteran coach Robbie Deans will again lead the Barbarians and is expected to name an international mix of players in the coming weeks. “We are hopeful of putting together a combination that will provide the sort of spectacle that the occasion deserves,” said Deans.
Springbok coach Rassie Erasmus welcomed the announcement, calling it the ideal lead-up to South Africa’s July Tests against Italy and Georgia.
“It’s always exciting to face the BaaBaas, and this match will be particularly special as it marks the first time that we will face them in South Africa,” Erasmus said. “For us, this will be the perfect opportunity to get the players match-ready for the official international season, which starts a week later.”
