Mashatile to Afrikaner Farmers: Don’t Leave, Help Is Coming

Deputy President Paul Mashatile has called on South African farmers, especially White Afrikaners, not to leave the country, saying the government is committed to solving the challenges they face in the agricultural sector.

Speaking at the NAMPO Harvest Day in the Free State, Mashatile said many farmers told him they want to remain in South Africa—if government steps up and works with them on key issues like rural safety, infrastructure, market access, and funding.

“The farmers that we met here today are saying they are happy to stay in South Africa. All they need is for us to work with them to address the challenges they face,” said Mashatile.

His comments come amid reports that 49 Afrikaners were granted asylum in the United States after claiming discrimination and violent attacks in South Africa.

President Cyril Ramaphosa has strongly rejected the claims, stating that South Africans are not being persecuted. He suggested the asylum seekers may be pushing back against South Africa’s constitutional changes, rather than facing genuine oppression.

Mashatile echoed this stance and criticised misinformation being spread about the country. “There’s no genocide here. We are beautiful, happy people—Black and White—working and living together,” he said.

He added that President Ramaphosa may even extend an invitation to former US President Donald Trump to visit South Africa and see the reality for himself.

The deputy president’s remarks aim to reassure farmers who are concerned about their future in the country and to encourage ongoing collaboration between the agricultural sector and the state.
