Tiffany Meek Bail Hearing Postponed Amid Public Outrage and Family Pleas for Calm

Public pressure grows while families seek space to mourn and the State builds its case
The high-profile bail application for Tiffany Meek, the 31-year-old mother accused of murdering her son, Jayden-Lee Meek, has been postponed to Monday, July 21, to allow for the testimony of an underage witness. Meek pleaded not guilty to all charges against her in the Roodepoort Magistrate’s Court, claiming she is being falsely accused and framed for the boy’s death.
What Meek claims
Reading from her affidavit, Meek’s legal representative, Novan Naidoo, insisted that his client is not a flight risk and maintained her innocence. She claimed to be the one who filed the missing person’s report and said she panicked when her son disappeared, only to later find him unconscious on a stairwell.
“I am innocent of all four charges… I filed the missing person’s report and went to the police. I called the driver, searched for my son, and was devastated when he was found and later pronounced dead,” said Meek in her affidavit.
Meek also rejected the bloodstains found on her son’s schoolbooks as fabricated, stating they weren’t there originally. She is currently facing charges of murder, crimen injuria, and obstructing the course of justice.
Police suspicion and public criticism
Authorities suspect that Jayden-Lee was killed in their home and that Meek tried to cover up the crime, diverting blame and creating confusion around the circumstances. Children’s rights groups and public figures have cast doubt on Meek’s story, calling her affidavit contradictory and misleading.
City of Johannesburg Speaker Margaret Arnolds called Meek’s affidavit disturbing and filled with inconsistencies.
“She talks about dates that don’t add up. She says the 16th, when the child actually went missing on the 13th. There are too many contradictions for her version to hold,” Arnolds said.
Fierce public outcry
Outside court, angry residents and activists gathered once again, demanding no bail for Meek and holding signs reading “Justice for Jayden-Lee” and “No Bail for Baby Killer.” They fear Meek’s proposed relocation to KwaZulu-Natal is an attempt to escape justice.
Meek and Dunn families appeal for compassion and space
Amid public outrage, Jayden-Lee’s paternal family addressed the media outside the courthouse, urging restraint, especially toward the Dunn family, into which Tiffany Meek had married.
Owen Meek, a cousin of the child’s father, acknowledged the community’s pain but said both families are still processing the loss and deserve respect.
“We’re standing firm behind the law. We’re not siding with anyone, we want the truth. We believe justice will be served. But in the same breath, please give the Dunn family space to mourn,” he said.
Owen also said that more arrests may be imminent and urged the public not to attack the maternal side of the family, stating that Jayden was loved by both.
What’s next
Tiffany Meek is set to return to court on Monday, July 21, for the continuation of her bail hearing. An underage witness is expected to testify, and the State continues to build its case against her.
As tensions rise and scrutiny intensifies, the Meek family’s message is clear: Justice for Jayden must be pursued through the court, not through social media or street justice.
“Jayden will forever be with us. But we can only move forward if we heal together,” said Owen.
