Two Pretoria West murders under investigation as Ekurhuleni women’s deaths probe widens

Two separate murder investigations are under way in Pretoria West after a woman and a man were found dead in unrelated incidents on consecutive days.

Police responded to the two cases on 14 and 15 September 2026, with investigators now working to establish what happened to both victims.

The cases come as Gauteng police continue dealing with another major investigation into the deaths of women in Ekurhuleni, where authorities have now confirmed eight cases under investigation.

Woman found dead inside Pretoria West flat

The first incident was reported early on Monday, 14 September.

Police were called to Christoffel Street at about 06:45, where they found the body of a 25-year-old woman inside a flat.

The woman was found naked and had visible bruising. Police suspect that she may have been strangled and sexually assaulted.

Crime Scene Management and other relevant investigators attended the scene as officers began gathering evidence.

The victim has been identified, although police have not announced any arrests in connection with the case.

Man found with stab wounds

The second murder was reported the following morning.

At around 06:15 on Tuesday, 15 September, police were called to WF Nkomo Street.

A 40-year-old man was found with stab wounds. Paramedics certified him dead at the scene.

As with the first case, Crime Scene Management and other role players were brought in to assist with the investigation.

No arrests have been made and police are continuing to follow leads.

Ekurhuleni investigation adds to Gauteng concern

The Pretoria West cases come at a time when police resources are also focused on a widening investigation in Ekurhuleni involving the deaths of eight women.

A high-level multidisciplinary team has been established to coordinate that investigation, with police examining forensic evidence, victim profiles and the circumstances surrounding each death. Authorities have cautioned against assuming that all eight cases are connected before investigators have established the facts.

Police previously confirmed that four of the first five women in the Ekurhuleni investigation had been sexually assaulted. The investigation has since expanded as additional cases were identified.

One of the identified victims is 38-year-old Elizabeth “Tsontso” Moselakgomo, whose body was identified by her family at the Germiston mortuary after she disappeared following a run.

While the Pretoria West murders are separate cases, the developments highlight the continued pressure on investigators dealing with serious violent crime across Gauteng.
