Speed Trap Net: Land Cruiser Driver Hits 203 km/h on N3, Among Three Nabbed in Blitz
A 41-year-old motorist learned the hard way that even a powerful Toyota Land Cruiser 300 is no match for a speed trap, after he was arrested on the N3 toll road for clocking a staggering 203 km/h in a 120 km/h zone. The arrest was part of a Tuesday afternoon blitz that also netted two other drivers for extreme speeding.
According to Mpumalanga Department of Community Safety spokesperson Moeti Mmusi, the white Land Cruiser was caught on the stretch between Heidelberg and Villiers around 12:30 PM on 13 January 2026. The driver was charged with reckless and negligent driving, released on R2,000 bail, and will appear in court soon.
A Trio of Speedsters Stopped
He wasn’t alone in his disregard for the limit. In the same operation, officers arrested the driver of a Volkswagen Amarok recorded at 179 km/h and the driver of a GWM Haval doing 162 km/h. Both men faced identical charges and were also released on R2,000 bail from the Grootvlei police station.
The department issued a stern warning, noting that excessive speeding on major routes like the N3 remains a leading cause of serious and fatal crashes. The enforcement action underscores the ongoing, and often deadly, challenge of curbing high-speed driving on South Africa’s long-distance highways.
For the Land Cruiser driver, a vehicle capable of such velocity now comes with a court date and a potential criminal recorda high price for a few minutes of forbidden speed. The message from authorities is clear: the fast lane ends at the police barrier.
