A viral video has taken social media by storm this weekend, capturing a moment of extreme parking frustration that ended with a small bakkie taking a Volkswagen Golf 5 GTI to the cleaners, literally.
The incident unfolded at an Engen garage in Woodmead, Johannesburg. While the initial confrontation wasn’t filmed, the viral clip shows the occupants of the Golf running towards a black Ashok Leyland Dosk after the small bakkie became boxed in. What happens next is pure pandemonium: the bakkie driver repeatedly reverses into the Golf, three times, before speeding off.
Eyewitnesses on social media quickly dubbed the episode a “David and Goliath” moment, highlighting the irony of a modest, budget bakkie standing up to a performance hatchback. Damage to the Golf GTI’s side appears extensive, with dents and scrapes clearly visible in the footage.

Online reactions were swift and divided. Many rallied behind the Dosk driver, sympathising with someone who appeared to have been unfairly boxed in by the Golf. Comments ranged from amusement to outrage, with users joking about the bakkie’s “heroic revenge” against the flashier vehicle. Others condemned the act as reckless and dangerous, calling for accountability.
The clip racked up thousands of views within hours, sparking debates about parking etiquette, road rage, and what people consider an appropriate response to being blocked in.
The Ashok Leyland Dosk, South Africa’s most affordable bakkie, starts at around R179,900, making it a far cry from the Volkswagen Golf 5 GTI’s higher-end pricing and sporty pedigree. Yet, in this parking lot showdown, the small and humble bakkie managed to make a disproportionately big impact, literally hammering home the “David versus Goliath” narrative.
The South African Police Service has yet to release a formal statement regarding the incident. However, local reports suggest that an investigation is underway. Whether charges will be laid or the matter will be settled privately remains unclear.
For now, the video serves as both a cautionary tale and a social media spectacle. It’s a reminder that parking disputes can escalate quickly, especially when emotions run high, and tempers meet metal. In the digital age, a moment of rage can instantly become global entertainment, leaving dents, not just egos, in its wake.
The Woodmead incident has sparked laughter, debate, and outrage, but one thing is certain: parking etiquette matters, and sometimes, the smallest vehicles pack the biggest punch.
