Johannesburg’s love affair with coffee is about to take centre stage again. This May, the Jo’burg Coffee Festival returns to the city with a bigger vision, transforming what was once the Specialty Coffee Expo into a vibrant lifestyle experience for coffee lovers and curious newcomers alike.

Set against the buzzing backdrop of Fourways Mall’s rooftop, the three day festival from 29 to 31 May 2026 promises a weekend where specialty coffee, culture and creativity collide. For Joburg’s growing community of caffeine enthusiasts, it is shaping up to be one of the most exciting lifestyle events on the city’s calendar.

The festival has evolved beyond its roots as a trade focused showcase, embracing the city’s appetite for experiences that blend food, music and community. Yet despite the expansion, one thing remains clear. At its core, this event is still all about great coffee.

A New Chapter For A Beloved Coffee Event

Longtime fans may remember the Specialty Coffee Expo, which built a loyal following among baristas, roasters and serious coffee drinkers across South Africa.

The Jo’burg Coffee Festival is the next chapter of that story. The new format keeps the specialty coffee foundation intact while widening the experience to match Johannesburg’s dynamic lifestyle scene.

Visitors will find more than just coffee stands. The festival introduces a broader programme designed to give guests an immersive look into the craft and culture behind every cup.

Expect Sample Bars, hands on Live Demonstrations, and educational Workshops hosted by the African School of Coffees, offering insights into brewing techniques, equipment and flavour profiles.

For anyone who has ever wondered why some coffees taste fruity while others feel chocolatey and rich, this is where the learning begins.

Roasters Village Remains The Heart Of The Festival

While the festival is expanding, the Roasters Village remains the centrepiece.

This dedicated space brings together some of South Africa’s top specialty coffee roasters, each showcasing their carefully sourced beans and signature brews. It is the perfect opportunity for visitors to taste their way through a wide range of coffees while hearing the stories behind the beans.

Johannesburg has quietly become one of Africa’s most exciting cities for specialty coffee, with independent cafés and micro roasters constantly pushing boundaries. The Roasters Village offers a rare chance to experience many of those brands in one place.

For serious coffee fans, it is essentially a playground of flavour.

A Full Weekend Of Food, Music And Lifestyle

Beyond the coffee itself, the Jo’burg Coffee Festival is leaning into a full sensory experience.

Guests can wander between food trucks, explore artisan market stalls, and indulge in fresh bakes and patisserie throughout the weekend. There will also be craft beer and wine bars, adding another layer to the festival atmosphere.

Live music will provide the soundtrack while visitors sip their favourite brew or discover a new roast.

The combination of coffee, food and entertainment means the festival is no longer just for industry insiders. It has become a weekend outing that appeals to anyone looking for something different to do in Johannesburg.

When And Where To Experience The Jo’burg Coffee Festival
