Johannesburg gears up to host the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2027

Johannesburg is preparing to welcome the world as one of the official host cities for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2027.

Executive Mayor Cllr Dada Morero joined Minister of Sports, Arts and Culture Gayton McKenzie, cricket leaders, government representatives and other stakeholders at the official launch of the tournament.

A global cricket event comes to Johannesburg

The tournament will bring the global sporting community to Africa, with Johannesburg set to play a role in hosting the international cricket spectacle.

For the city, the tournament is expected to offer more than the excitement of world-class cricket, with the event presenting opportunities to support tourism, economic activity and local communities.

Opportunities beyond the cricket

According to the City, hosting the tournament could help drive local tourism and stimulate economic growth while creating job opportunities for communities.

The event will also provide Johannesburg with an opportunity to showcase itself as a destination capable of hosting major global sporting events.

With the official launch now underway, attention turns towards 2027 as Johannesburg joins the preparations for what is set to be a major international sporting occasion.

The ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2027 will be held under the theme “Three Nations, One Heartbeat.”
