Salmonella Scare: NCC Recalls Bobtail, Catmor, Bonzo and Other Pet Foods
Pet owners, check your cupboards.
The National Consumer Commission (NCC) has issued a recall for various dry pet food products manufactured by RCL Foods due to potential Salmonella contamination.
The Affected Brands
The recall affects approximately 115,045 cases (bags) of dry dog and cat food, including:
-
Bobtail
-
Catmor
-
Canine Cuisine
-
Optimizor
-
Ultra Pet
-
Feline Cuisine
-
Bonzo
-
Optiwoof
The affected batches were distributed through different retail channels across South Africa.
The Risk
Salmonella is a bacterium that can pose health risks to both pets and humans through ingestion or handling of contaminated products.
The NCC confirmed that certain condemned batches linked to potential Salmonella contamination have been found in retail channels.
“The presence of Salmonella in pet food is considered unsafe,” said NCC spokesperson Phetho Ntaba.
What Consumers Must Do
“Consumers who may have purchased any of the affected dry pet food products are advised to stop using the product immediately and return it to the retailer where it was purchased for a refund or replacement,” Ntaba said.
The Monitoring
The NCC said it is monitoring the recall closely to ensure full compliance with the Consumer Protection Act and to safeguard consumer rights.
The Bottom Line
If you have Bobtail, Catmor, Bonzo, or any of the listed brands in your home, stop using them now. Return them to the retailer for a refund.
Salmonella is no jokefor your pets, or for you.
