Gauteng residents should expect a cool, mostly clear weekend as cloud cover drifts across the province, bringing partly cloudy afternoons in Pretoria and Johannesburg, the South African Weather Service (Saws) says.

Quick summary

The weather forecast calls for mild temperatures across Gauteng and a 0% chance of rain for most areas this weekend. Skies will generally be clear in the mornings and evenings, with clouds developing during the afternoons.

Pretoria: mostly clear, mild highs

Saws said Pretoria will be “mostly clear” through much of Saturday. The service noted temperatures starting at 13°C at 2am and rising to 22°C by 2pm, with conditions becoming “partly cloudy” during the afternoon before clearing again in the evening. Forecast figures in the report also put Saturday’s range at a minimum of 12°C and a maximum of 23°C.

Winds in Pretoria are expected to stay light and shift from south-westerly to westerly, with speeds peaking near 9.3km/h in the afternoon. On Sunday the city is forecast to remain cool and dry, with a minimum of 12°C and a maximum of 22°C.

Johannesburg: calm conditions with afternoon clouds

Johannesburg is set for stable weather over the weekend. Saws forecasts “mostly clear” skies for Saturday morning and evening, and “partly cloudy” conditions during the afternoon.

Temperatures are expected to climb from around 11–12°C in the early hours to a daytime high of 20°C. Winds will be generally calm, easing up with a slight increase to about 9.3km/h from a west-south-westerly direction in the afternoon. Sunday is also forecast to be mainly dry with a minimum of 12°C and a maximum of 20°C, and no rainfall expected.

What this means for Joburg residents

  • Expect cool mornings and mild afternoons a light jacket before sunrise is sensible.
  • Afternoon clouds may appear, but the forecast keeps rain chances at or near 0% for most areas.
  • Light winds make for generally pleasant conditions for outdoor plans.

These details come from the South African Weather Service as reported by The Citizen.
