Police seized mandrax tablets and crystal meth with an estimated street value of R3,000,000 during an early-morning operation at a bed and breakfast in the Langverwacht area of Kuilsriver on Monday.

Arrests after tip-off

Members of the Anti-Economic Crime Task Team arrested a 29-year-old woman and a 35-year-old man at about 4:30am on Monday, June 15, following information about drug activity at the B&B, Provincial police spokesperson Captain Frederick van Wyk said.

What officers found

Officers found the pair in a room at the identified address and also noticed a white VW Polo parked in front. After asking the suspect to unlock the vehicle, members searched it and discovered a large quantity of drugs.

Fifty-one bags containing mandrax tablets and five kilograms of crystal methamphetamine, with an estimated street value of R3,000,000, were confiscated. Police also seized R17,000 in cash, which they believe to be proceeds of crime. The items were handed in as exhibits.

Charges and next steps

Both suspects were arrested on charges of possession and dealing in drugs and are expected to appear in the Kuilsriver Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.

Police statement

“The members received information of drug activity at a bed and breakfast situated in the Langverwacht area in Kuilsriver. They acted swiftly on the information, and upon arrival at the identified address, members found a male fitting the description of the suspect and a female in the room,” Captain Frederick van Wyk said.

The confiscated items were described by police as mandrax tablets, crystal meth and cash, and have been recorded as exhibits for the ongoing process.
