Man shot dead in Musina car; female passenger wounded as police hunt gunmen

Police in Musina are searching for unknown gunmen after a 29-year-old man was shot dead in his car and a female passenger wounded in the early hours of Monday.

What happened

According to the South African Police Service, officers received a report of a shooting at about 01:45am and went to Matswale Extension 09 in the Vhembe District. On arrival, they found a silver‑grey VW Polo with the victim slumped over in the driver’s seat.

“Upon arrival at the scene, members found a silver-grey VW Polo with the victim slumped over in the driver’s seat,”

Police said the man had been shot several times and that spent cartridges were found nearby.

Emergency response and injuries

Paramedics attended the scene but could not save the man.

“Emergency Medical Services (EMS) personnel certified the victim dead at the scene.”

A woman who had been with the man in the car was injured and was taken to hospital for treatment.

Investigation under way

Police said they had not yet established why the pair were targeted and that no arrests had been made. Police investigations are continuing.

Limpopo’s Acting Provincial Commissioner, Major General Jan Scheepers, condemned the killing and instructed detectives to use available resources to track down those responsible.
