Motorcyclist killed and three injured in collision on R101 near Bela‑Bela Lodge
A motorcyclist died and three other people were injured after a collision between a motorcycle and a Toyota Corolla on the R101 near Bela‑Bela Lodge in Limpopo on Tuesday night, authorities said.
Who was affected and immediate response
The motorcyclist was declared deceased at the scene, while three people were injured, including the driver of the Toyota Corolla, who sustained serious injuries, the Limpopo Department of Transport and Community Safety said.
The crash forced a temporary closure of the road. The department confirmed on Wednesday morning that the road was fully open and traffic was flowing freely.
Preliminary findings and investigation
Department spokesperson Mashudu Mabata said preliminary reports indicate that excessive speed may have contributed to the crash. She said investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident are continuing.
“The department conveys its heartfelt condolences to the family and loved ones of the deceased and wishes those who sustained injuries a speedy and full recovery,” Mabata said.
Official thanks and safety message
Mabata expressed appreciation to the Emergency Medical Services, the South African Police Service and traffic law enforcement officers for their response and management of the incident.
She urged motorists to obey speed limits and all other traffic laws, saying “Road safety is a shared responsibility. Let us save lives and arrive alive.”
