Gift of the Givers announces passing of long-time Johannesburg leader

According to IOL, Gift of the Givers has announced the death of Allauddin Sayed, a long-standing member of the organisation who helped establish its Johannesburg presence.

Who he was and his role

IOL reports that Sayed spearheaded the opening of the Johannesburg office in 2006. The organisation described him as a devoted family man and a close friend of the Sooliman family.

Service and compassion

The Foundation told IOL that Sayed was a “tireless servant to all who needed help” and was “committed to the service of the poor and vulnerable, his passion was the care of widows, orphans, the elderly and communities struck by disasters.”

IOL further quoted the Foundation saying that his “soul was deeply touched by school children, amputees, and the physically and mentally challenged,” and that “he was filled with compassion for the vulnerable, working long hours even at an advanced age.”

Illness and final years

According to IOL, Sayed was forced to retire a few years ago after a “chronic and debilitating illness” gradually affected his health. The organisation said he showed “remarkable patience during his illness, never complaining or showing self-pity, but always remaining cheerful, smiling, and deeply grateful.”

“We honor a man who showed remarkable patience during his illness, never complaining or showing self-pity, but always remaining cheerful, smiling, and deeply grateful. May the Almighty grant him the highest station in paradise,” the organisation said. IOL
