Eskom will interrupt electricity supply in parts of Daveyton for 10 hours on Wednesday, 26 August to carry out planned maintenance on the area’s distribution network, the utility said.

When and where the outage will happen

The outage is scheduled to run from 08:00 to 18:00 on Wednesday, 26 August. Eskom said the interruption will affect customers in Hlakwana, Kwena and Mabuya, and businesses including shops at Sqaureni and Daveyton Mall.

Why the work is being done

Eskom described the interruption as necessary to carry out essential maintenance on distribution power lines serving the area. The utility said the preventative work is part of ongoing efforts to maintain network reliability and to reduce the risk of unplanned outages in future.

What residents and businesses were told

Eskom apologised in advance for the inconvenience and thanked residents for their cooperation. The utility warned customers to treat electrical appliances and wiring as live at all times during the interruption, noting that supply could be restored without notice before the announced end time. Eskom also cautioned that the maintenance schedule could be disrupted by circumstances beyond its control.

How to stay updated and report problems

Eskom listed several official channels for updates and supply-related reports:

  • The MyEskom Customer self-help app
  • WhatsApp: 0860037566
  • USSD: *120*37566#
  • The Alfred chatbot on Eskom’s website
  • Customer portal for billing queries on weekdays from 08:00 to 16:00
  • Contact centre for urgent supply enquiries, available 24 hours: 08600 37566

Wider context and advice

Eskom said the Daveyton maintenance is part of a broader programme across the Gauteng cluster to upgrade and maintain ageing infrastructure. The utility acknowledged that ageing infrastructure has repeatedly caused unplanned disruptions for households and businesses in the area but said that preventative interruptions are intended to improve long-term supply stability.

Residents were advised to plan for the outage window and to ensure devices are charged in advance. Eskom suggested that businesses at Sqaureni and Daveyton Mall make contingency arrangements for the duration of the interruption.
