Nigerian man arrested in Polokwane after police recover R20,000 of drugs from Kia Picanto
According to IOL, police arrested a 40-year-old Nigerian national in Polokwane after recovering CAT and ROCK drugs worth about R20,000 from a white Kia Picanto.
A 40-year-old Nigerian national was arrested in Polokwane on Monday, August 17, after police found drugs with an estimated street value of R20,000 hidden in a vehicle, IOL reports.
Chase ends on R37 after vehicle spotted on R101
Members of the Provincial Organised Crime Narcotics, Anti-Gang Unit and the Organised Crime Unit carried out a disruptive operation in Polokwane that led to the arrest, according to IOL. Police said they acted on information about a white Kia Picanto allegedly being used to deliver drugs in the city.
“The vehicle was spotted along the R101 and followed. The driver sped off and was pursued until the R37 road, where he abandoned the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot,” Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said, as quoted by IOL.
Drugs recovered and charges to follow
After the suspect was apprehended, officers searched the Kia Picanto and recovered CAT and ROCK drugs, with an estimated street value of R20,000 hidden inside the vehicle, IOL reports.
The suspect is expected to appear in the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday to face charges relating to dealing in and possession of drugs, IOL says.
Police response
“Police will continue to disrupt the illicit drug trade and bring those involved before the courts,”
the Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Jan Scheepers, said, according to IOL.
