SAPS disciplinary hearing for Lieutenant General Sibiya postponed
he disciplinary process involving Lieutenant General Sibiya is still moving ahead, the South African Police Service (SAPS) has confirmed.
The latest development comes after proceedings were heard, with Sibiya’s request for more time to prepare granted. The disciplinary hearing has now been postponed to 12 October 2026.
SAPS said the postponement will give Sibiya an opportunity to consult with his legal representatives before the hearing continues.
Disciplinary hearing and court case are separate
SAPS has stressed that the disciplinary proceedings and the related Labour Court application are two separate matters, although both are currently unfolding at the same time.
The distinction is important as developments in one process do not mean that the other has been stopped.
While the disciplinary hearing was postponed, the urgent application before the Labour Court was also heard.
The court proceedings have been adjourned to give SAPS time to file its opposing papers. Sibiya will then have an opportunity to submit his replying affidavit before the matter returns to court for consideration.
Labour Court matter remains before the court
SAPS said the Labour Court proceedings remain sub judice, meaning the matter is still actively before the court.
As a result, the police service said it would not comment on the merits of the case while the legal process continues.
For now, the disciplinary process remains on track, with 12 October the next date to watch.
