South African actor Mfana Jones Hlophe, best known for his roles in Generations: The Legacy and Soul City, has died, prompting tributes from colleagues across the entertainment industry, Joburg Etc reports.

The news was shared by fellow actor Zola Hashatsi, who reflected on Hlophe’s influence on younger performers and his contribution to the arts.

In his tribute, Hashatsi wrote: ‘It’s with a heavy heart to announce the passing of fellow thespian Mfana Jones Hlophe. He practically raised us. Thank you for your contribution to the arts.’

The message showed a glimpse into the impact Hlophe had beyond his performances, with his influence extending to fellow artists who worked alongside him.

A familiar face on South African television

Hlophe was recognised for portraying Bra Nimz in Generations: The Legacy and Jabu in Soul City. He also appeared in KwaBaba and other local television productions.

His career extended beyond the small screen, with theatre forming an important part of his work. He was associated with productions including Sarafina!, alongside other stage performances that contributed to South Africa’s performing arts tradition.

The team behind Generations: The Legacy also expressed its condolences, remembering Hlophe and extending its support to his family.

As tributes continue, Hlophe is being remembered not only for the characters he brought to life but also for the mark he left on colleagues and the wider South African entertainment industry.
